Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Alliance of Ugandan Canadian Associations (NAUCA), marking the start of a strategic partnership focused on innovation, legal empowerment, and facilitating diaspora investment. The collaboration will also see the law firm participate in the NAUCA Business & Cultural Convention 2026.

Diaspora investment continues to play a vital role in Uganda’s economic growth, with remittances reaching approximately USD 1.5 billion (UGX 6.5 trillion) in the 2024/2025 financial year. This reflects both strong financial contribution and continued confidence in Uganda’s future.
Through the partnership, Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates will act as NAUCA’s designated legal advisory partner in Uganda. The firm will support Ugandans in Canada with investment processes, property acquisition, business setup, and wealth protection in a secure and transparent manner. Its services will cover property protection, joint venture structuring, business registration and compliance, estate planning, banking and financing advisory, dispute prevention, and immigration-related guidance.
As part of the agreement, the firm will participate as both sponsor and legal partner at the inaugural NAUCA Business & Cultural Convention, scheduled for October 9–11, 2026, at the Pinnacle Harbourfront Hotel Downtown in Vancouver, Canada.

Counsel Deo Kalikumutima, Chief Executive Partner at the firm, noted that the partnership addresses a long-standing gap for Ugandans abroad seeking structured investment channels back home.
“For far too long, our diaspora brothers and sisters have sought meaningful opportunities to invest back home; they simply lacked a trusted and structured pathway. We are proud to serve as that bridge under NAUCA. Every Ugandan abroad should be able to invest with confidence, certainty, and full transparency.”
He added that diaspora investment goes beyond capital, emphasizing the importance of trust in systems and institutions.
“When the diaspora invests, they are not merely transferring capital; they are placing trust in systems, institutions, and people. Our responsibility is to protect that trust and ensure it is translated into sustainable, measurable impact for Uganda’s future.”
NAUCA President and Board Chair Justus Mirembe highlighted the personal nature of diaspora investment and the challenges many face.

“For many Ugandans abroad, investing back home is deeply personal. However, this aspiration is often tempered by uncertainty due to unclear processes and limited safeguards. Through this partnership, we are providing legally enforceable protections, clear guidance, and dependable support at every stage.”
During the convention and future NAUCA engagements, Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates will host legal advisory clinics focusing on secure investment structuring, proper documentation, due diligence, and the protection of generational wealth. The firm will also offer immigration advisory support, including guidance on documentation required for Canadian Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) applications, noting that final decisions remain with Canadian immigration authorities.
