- Andrew Kyamagero says Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is widely misunderstood and strategically projects a simplified image.
- Kyamagero cited Muhoozi’s military discipline and understanding of band music as signs of deeper leadership qualities.
- He said Muhoozi draws inspiration from Paul Kagame while learning patience and timing from President Museveni.
Former MTV News anchor Andrew Kyamagero has urged Ugandans to stop underestimating Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, saying many people misunderstand the Chief of Defence Forces because of the public image he projects.

Speaking about Muhoozi’s leadership and personality, Kyamagero argued that the general is far more calculated and knowledgeable than many critics believe.
According to Kyamagero, Muhoozi deliberately allows people to form a simplified and controversial perception of him while maintaining a deeper understanding of leadership, discipline and strategy.
He recalled an incident involving military band protocol during a presidential inspection, where Muhoozi reportedly reprimanded soldiers after the band stopped playing while President Yoweri Museveni was inspecting the guard of honour.

“Most people are hoodwinked by the image Muhoozi gives off, but his profile is much sharper than many think,” Kyamagero said.
Kyamagero noted that Muhoozi not only insisted on discipline during ceremonial duties but also demonstrated knowledge of military band music, including musical chords and minors — something he said many would not expect from the general.
He further claimed that Muhoozi draws much of his leadership inspiration from Rwandan President Paul Kagame, whom he described as an influential figure in shaping the CDF’s outlook.
“If you want to understand someone, first understand who mentors and inspires them,” Kyamagero added.
According to Kyamagero, Muhoozi admires governance principles associated with Kagame, particularly accountability and intolerance toward poor performance regardless of personal relationships.
At the same time, he argued that Muhoozi inherited patience and timing from President Museveni.
Kyamagero described Museveni as a leader who carefully observes situations before taking action, saying this is a trait Muhoozi is gradually mastering.
He concluded that many people wrongly assume Muhoozi’s position and influence are solely tied to being the president’s son, arguing instead that the general possesses leadership qualities and strategic thinking that are often overlooked.
