  • Large concerts are no longer as profitable as they once were due to lower turnout and higher operational costs.

Media personality Douglas Lwanga has finally revealed why his famous Purple Party events are no longer taking place as regularly as they once did.

For nearly a decade, Purple Party was one of Uganda’s most successful entertainment brands, attracting revelers from across the country with its vibrant atmosphere and urban party experience. However, the events have been noticeably absent in recent years, leaving many fans wondering what happened.

Speaking in an interview with TikToker Zubeda, Douglas explained that he chose to take a break in order to rethink and restrategize the event.

According to him, the COVID-19 pandemic fundamentally changed how people consume entertainment, making it harder for large-scale events to attract the numbers they once did.

“When COVID came, people found different ways to entertain themselves. Some stay home and watch Netflix, others organize house parties, while many now prefer smaller social gatherings.”

Douglas noted that before the pandemic, major holidays such as Easter would see artists perform at numerous venues in a single day. Today, only a handful of events are held during such periods, and many struggle to generate profits.

He further explained that rising operational costs and event regulations have made organizing concerts more challenging than before. As a result, several once-popular entertainment events have either scaled down significantly or disappeared altogether.

Despite the challenges, Douglas suggested that he is still evaluating the future of Purple Party, with a focus on adapting the brand to the realities of today’s entertainment market.
