Swangz Avenue singer Vinka has revealed that fellow musician Cindy Sanyu’s comments about artists signed to record labels left her feeling disappointed and personally hurt.

Speaking in a recent interview, the Bailando hitmaker admitted that she had admired Cindy for many years and considered herself one of her biggest fans before joining the music industry.
“I felt bad. It made me feel bad,” Vinka said, explaining that it is sometimes difficult when someone you have always looked up to says something that feels directed at you.
She noted that fans often admire celebrities from a distance, but getting to know them personally can sometimes change that perception.

Vinka’s remarks stem from comments Cindy made in 2023 during the peak of her rivalry with Sheebah Karungi. At the time, Cindy argued that artists signed to music labels were “dummies,” claiming they have little creative control because everything—from their music and image to their performances—is decided by management.
As an artist signed to Swangz Avenue, Vinka said she felt those remarks unfairly dismissed the hard work and talent of musicians operating under record labels.
Despite feeling hurt, Vinka did not attack Cindy personally, instead acknowledging that the comments simply did not sit well with her because they came from someone she respected.
Vinka is currently preparing for her first major concert, scheduled for August, marking another milestone in her music career. Her revelation offers fans a rare glimpse into how public comments made within Uganda’s music industry can have a personal impact on fellow artists.
