Ugandan singer Lydia Jazmine has revealed that she intends to have her future child—or children—born abroad, saying she wants to give them opportunities and a future she never had.

Speaking in a recent interview, the Masuuka singer explained that she has traveled extensively over the years and sees no reason why she shouldn’t have her children overseas if she has the opportunity.

“I have passports, and my second one is almost expiring. I even have visas that expired before I got the chance to use them. Why wouldn’t I give birth abroad and give my child the future and life I never had?” Lydia Jazmine said.

The singer disclosed that she previously discussed the idea with fellow musician Sheebah Karungi, who welcomed her son, Amir, in Canada. According to Jazmine, their conversation further reinforced her desire to make a similar decision when the time comes.

Jazmine also reflected on her childhood, recalling how many of her relatives lived overseas. She said family members would excitedly travel to the airport to receive them whenever they visited Uganda, something that left a lasting impression on her.

“I grew up watching my cousins and relatives come from abroad, and everyone would rush to the airport to receive them. I always admired that life, and if I can make it possible for my child, I definitely will,” she added.

Several Ugandan musicians have welcomed children abroad over the years. They include Sheebah Karungi, Juliana Kanyomozi, Iryn Namubiru, whose sons was born in France, and Bebe Cool, whose children were born in the United States. Others, including Jose Chameleone, Bobi Wine, and Desire Luzinda, also have children living in the United States
