Ugandan singer Liam Voice has expressed concern over ongoing discussions by the government to increase the toll fee charged to motorists using the Kampala–Entebbe express highway, arguing that the move would place an additional burden on ordinary Ugandans already struggling with high sugar prices.

The current toll fee is Shs5,000, but proposals to increase the charge have sparked public discussion, with Liam Voice questioning the reasoning behind the move.

“There are things you look at and just laugh, not because they’re funny but because of anger,” he said, questioning whether the Express Highway “drinks sugar” to warrant an increase in its toll fee.

Liam Voice argued that with sugar prices already high, the resulting burden ultimately falls on ordinary Ugandans, making it unfair to further stretch their finances through an increase in highway toll charges.

“If there are high sugar prices, then that means the burden falls back to the ordinary Ugandan, so there shouldn’t be any more stretching it with the increase in toll fares on the Express Highway,” he said.

The singer also expressed disappointment with the people involved in making decisions on matters affecting the public.

“It hurts me that these are the people who sit down and discuss for all of us matters of national importance,” he concluded.
