Former Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Hon. Mathias Mpuuga has explained why he is rarely seen at public functions and political gatherings, saying his focus has shifted to his professional and community responsibilities.

Mpuuga, who served as the Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator, said leaving active politics gave him an opportunity to concentrate on other areas of his life.

“The reason why you don’t see me daily and on every function is because I have work to do. Ever since I exited politics, I have been focusing my efforts elsewhere,” Mpuuga said.

The former legislator said he is currently involved in several activities, including teaching, legal practice, community service and farming.

“For example, I’m a teacher, so I visit some of my schools to supervise. I’m a lawyer, I be in chambers to offer my services,” he explained.

Mpuuga also said he remains involved in the affairs of his community, where he is often called upon to offer guidance and counsel.

“I’m a Mutaaka in my home area, so I be providing counsel to those that need it,” he said.

He added that farming is another area taking up his time, noting that he has personally been affected by the ongoing dry spell.

“Then I’m also a farmer and I’m one of those people who have been greatly affected by this dry spell,” Mpuuga said.

He stressed that attending every public function is not a requirement, saying his attention is now directed towards his different responsibilities.

“It’s not mandatory that I have to appear everywhere. My efforts are focused elsewhere now,” he said.

The seasoned politician lost his Nyendo-Mukungwe parliamentary seat to the National Unity Platform’s Javira Ssebina in the January 15 election.
