Frank Gashumba has weighed in on Uganda’s drinking culture, claiming that there is no other African city where people consume alcohol as frequently as they do in Uganda.

Speaking about the country’s drinking habits, Gashumba observed that drinking has become an everyday activity for many Ugandans, with some establishments operating around the clock.
“In Uganda we drink from morning, up to the following morning,” he said, adding that some bars are even located close to State House.
He noted that the trend is not limited to Kampala but is also evident in other districts across the country, from border to border, suggesting that alcohol consumption has become widespread.

Gashumba further suggested that the freedom Ugandans enjoy under President Yoweri Museveni may have contributed to the situation, arguing that something was overlooked in the process.
“I think in the process of giving Ugandans liberty, there’s something President Museveni missed out,” he added.
He, however, acknowledged that reversing the trend would not be an easy task, given how deeply the drinking culture appears to have taken root among sections of the population.
