• An-Known says he once dreamed of becoming an artist while in school.
  • Financial struggles forced him into construction work after Senior Four.
  • He later found his path in music, which changed his life direction.

Rising artist An-Known has opened up about the different turns his life could have taken if music hadn’t come through for him.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Mr Henrie on NRG Radio Uganda, the young singer reflected on how his ambitions have evolved over time—and how much they depended on the stage of life he was in.

Back in school, his dreams looked very different. An-Known says he was deeply passionate about art and stood out for his talent, making it the career path he once saw for himself.

“If you had asked me that question back when I was in school, I would tell you that I wanted to become an artist,” he shared.

But after completing Senior Four, life didn’t quite go as planned. He didn’t continue with formal education and instead found himself working in construction, helping builders just to make ends meet.

“After high school, if you asked me that question, I would say I would be in the construction business, still assisting builders,” he explained.

He describes that phase as one shaped more by survival than passion—simply going where life led him.

“Life has no science. The more you grow, the more you understand that what it throws at you is what you go with,” he said.

An-Known also revealed that financial struggles forced him to put his art dreams on hold. The cost of materials like paint and canvases, along with everyday expenses like rent, made it difficult to pursue.

“I had to buy paint, canvases, rent, so I chose the easiest direction with hope that through assisting builders, I would be able to collect some money and then start up an art gallery,” he added.

That plan, however, never came to life. Instead, he eventually found his way into music—a path he believes came naturally to him.

With his raw talent leading the way, An-Known stepped into the studio, setting off what has now become his journey in the music industry.
