Takeaways
- Azawi took a break to focus on her health and personal well-being
- She paused to re-strategize after five years of consistent hits
- The singer is now ready to release new music and make a strong comeback
Ugandan singer Priscilla Zawedde, popularly known as Azawi, has opened up about why she stepped away from the music scene for nearly a year, revealing a mix of personal and professional reasons behind her silence.

While speaking during an appearance on Galaxy FM, the award-winning artist explained that she intentionally paused her career to focus on her well-being and rethink her approach to music.
Azawi noted that after consistently delivering chart-topping hits for close to five years, she realized the need to evolve with the ever-changing music industry. Taking a break, she said, allowed her to reset and develop a fresh strategy for her next phase.
“I’ve been releasing hit songs for almost five years straight, but the music landscape keeps changing. I needed time to re-strategize and come back better.”

In addition to her career shift, the singer revealed that she had been battling a health condition for about three years—one she had initially ignored. Over time, the issue worsened, forcing her to prioritize treatment and recovery.
“I had a health issue I had neglected for years, and it got worse. Taking time off helped me deal with it, and now I feel much better and ready to move forward.”
Now in a better place both physically and mentally, Azawi says she is ready to return stronger. She disclosed that she has a collection of songs recorded over the past few years, which she plans to release soon.
Confident in her resilience, the singer believes her comeback will be impactful, promising fans a wave of new music and “hit after hit” as she reclaims her position among Uganda’s top artists.
