Bobi Wine has announced that he has temporarily left Uganda, revealing that he had spent nearly two months in hiding before his departure.

The National Unity Platform leader, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, shared the update through a video message posted on his social media platforms.
In the statement, Bobi Wine claimed that shortly after the recent elections, security forces surrounded his home, forcing him to go into hiding.
“Fellow Ugandans and friends of Uganda,” he began. “Two months ago, Museveni yet again usurped the will of the people of Uganda and declared himself president at gunpoint. A day later, gripped by shame and fear, the military invaded my home to harm me, but I was able to evade them and go into hiding.”

He said that during the time he remained out of sight, security agencies carried out a series of operations in search of him. According to Bobi Wine, authorities raided homes belonging to some of his colleagues and fellow opposition leaders, mounted roadblocks across different areas, and conducted spot checks on vehicles and motorcycles.
He also alleged that police officers who had been assigned to his campaign were arrested and dismissed, while his family home in the village was raided and his main residence kept under constant surveillance.
Despite the intense search, Bobi Wine said he managed to stay safe with the help of ordinary Ugandans.
“They couldn’t find me because the people of Uganda sheltered me and protected me,” he said.
The opposition figure explained that his decision to leave the country is temporary and meant to allow him to carry out what he described as “important work.” Over the next few weeks, he plans to meet with international friends and allies before returning to Uganda.
“Over the next few weeks, I will engage with our friends and allies all over the world before returning to Uganda to continue the push for freedom and democracy,” he said, urging his supporters to remain focused and united.
Bobi Wine also announced that in his absence, Lina Zedriga Waru will serve as the acting president of the National Unity Platform.
