Minister of Information, Communications Technology, and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, has dismissed reports suggesting that opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye is seriously ill or being denied medical care while serving time at Luzira Prison.

Speaking to journalists, Baryomunsi described Besigye’s health issue as a “minor diarrheal illness” that was quickly treated by his personal doctor.
He emphasized that both the prison medical team and Besigye’s own physician have confirmed the former FDC leader is in good health.
Acknowledging that prison life can be challenging, Baryomunsi assured the public that Besigye is “well and living his life” behind bars. He added that Besigye has a self-contained room with access to television and is not subjected to the harsh conditions his wife, Winnie Kizza, has described.

The minister also pointed out that when Besigye was admitted to Luzira, he listed three next-of-kin—none of whom was his wife. “Maybe that’s why she sometimes complains,” Baryomunsi remarked.
He concluded by urging patience, expressing hope that Besigye’s lawyers and the courts would handle his case swiftly and deliver a fair judgment in due course.
