Speaking on Uncut on Sanyuka TV, Ugandan model Doreen Kabareebe encouraged young women to stay at their parents’ homes until marriage, calling it the safest choice.

According to Doreen, living under your parents’ roof may feel restrictive at times—curfews, asking permission to go out, and other household rules—but these structures ultimately provide a layer of protection.
She shared that her own experience of living at home while pursuing both her undergraduate and master’s degrees taught her the value of such guidance.
“I had to ask my mother every time I wanted to go out. She would let me go but always reminded me to keep track of time,” Doreen recalled. “Living under strict parents’ guidance means there’s less chance of anyone taking advantage of you.”

Doreen also cautioned young women against accepting money from men they have no romantic intentions with, warning it can create unnecessary complications. On the flip side, she advised men to choose partners whose lifestyles and financial expectations align with their own, noting that some women’s high-maintenance lifestyles can quickly become a burden if not managed realistically.
For Doreen, staying at home until marriage isn’t just about following rules—it’s about safety, structure, and making thoughtful choices in relationships.
