Bobi Wine has announced the passing of Edith Katende Mufumbiro, the wife of National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, following a prolonged illness.

In a statement shared on Wednesday morning, Bobi Wine revealed that Edith breathed her last shortly after 3:00am after what he described as a “hard-fought battle with cancer.”

“At the time of her passing, her dear husband Waiswa remains detained at Luzira Upper Prison for no crime whatsoever,” Bobi Wine wrote on his official Facebook page.

Edith and Mufumbiro formalized their union in a beautiful Anglican ceremony held at St Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe on December 16, 2022. The celebration later continued with a vibrant reception at One Love Beach Busabala, hosted by Bobi Wine and attended by several prominent opposition figures.

Among those present were veteran opposition leader Kizza Besigye and then Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago.

Meanwhile, Mufumbiro remains in custody facing charges of “unlawful drilling,” allegedly committed on February 12, 2025, at the party’s headquarters in Makerere-Kavule. Both he and Bobi Wine have strongly dismissed the accusations as baseless.

By press time, the family had not yet communicated details regarding the final send-off arrangements.
