- The partnership was inspired by mutual respect, shared hustle, and a desire to fill the gap left by the late DJ Mo.
- Roja credits consistency and hard work—not just talent—for keeping him at the top of Uganda’s DJ scene.
Renowned DJ DJ Roja has revealed how he formed his long-standing and iconic DJ partnership with Slick Stuart, a duo that has come to define collaborative DJing in Uganda.

Speaking about their journey, DJ Roja said the two officially crossed paths in 2014, a period when the Ugandan entertainment industry was still mourning the loss of the late, celebrated DJ Mo. At the time, Roja was being tipped as one of the DJs capable of stepping into the big shoes left behind—but he admits he was hesitant.
“I was still upcoming and unsure if I was ready for that level,” Roja recalls. “But MC Kats kept pushing me, always reminding me that the space needed someone willing to step up.”
Roja explains that he had repeatedly encountered Slick Stuart at various concerts and music events around the country. However, their defining moment came when Sam Mukasa, manager to Dr Jose Chameleone, invited Roja to DJ at Chameleone’s concert held at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

On the way to the event, Roja linked up with Slick Stuart, whom he had long admired for his Extended Plays that were already popular at the time.
“I was a big fan of his work. His mixes were everywhere,” Roja said.
After their performance at the concert, Slick Stuart invited Roja to his office at Mutasa Café, Rooftop Plaza, where the two sat down, talked, and made the decision that would change Ugandan DJ history—forming a duo.
From that point, things moved fast. The pair began collaborating with top artists, landing major gigs, and building a brand that has now stood strong for over a decade. Today, DJ Roja and Slick Stuart are widely regarded as one of—if not the—best DJ duos in the country.
Reflecting on his personal success, Roja attributes his longevity at the top to consistency.
“I’ve seen DJs who are even more talented than me fall off,” he said. “For us, it was pure hustle—multiple gigs, day and night, across the country. Consistency is what kept me standing.”
He added that while he is unsure what defines the journey of the new generation of DJs, his story—and that of Slick Stuart—is rooted in hard work, sacrifice, and persistence.
