Struggling Ugandan singer Dr. Propa has dismissed long-standing claims that he abuses drugs, insisting that he only uses medication prescribed in hospital and nothing illegal.

Speaking in response to a reporter’s question about his mental state—sparked by old videos that once circulated online—Dr. Propa firmly denied using substances such as marijuana. He instead attributed his energy and behaviour to his natural musical spirit.

“I don’t use drugs. The only drugs I use are those approved in the hospital. I was born high because music lives in me,” Dr. Propa said.

The Omwana Womwavu singer also opened up about his recent involvement in President Yoweri Museveni’s campaign, where he was seen performing at several rallies. He clarified that he was not paid for the performances but believes recognition of his contribution could lead to compensation in the future.

For now, he says, he is not in a position to demand payment.

Dr. Propa expressed satisfaction that his efforts contributed to President Museveni retaining power, adding that he made a deliberate political choice despite his friendship with fellow musician and opposition figure Bobi Wine.

According to the singer, he could not stand on both sides.

He further revealed that Bobi Wine never reached out to him to perform at his rallies, making the decision easier. “I had to choose either singing for Museveni or Bobi Wine, and I chose Museveni,” he explained.

Addressing past reports about a land dispute he was involved in, Dr. Propa said the issue stemmed from a failed transaction and mistakes on his part. However, he remains hopeful.

“If the land is truly mine, it will come back to me someday,” he said.

The singer also praised the work of the Uganda National Musicians Federation, where he is a member, applauding its sensitization efforts—particularly on SACCO-related programs—and encouraging other musicians to join.

Looking ahead, Dr. Propa revealed that he is currently seeking financial support to rebuild his life and career after several difficult years away from the spotlight
