Kasambya County Member of Parliament Hon. Daudi Kabanda, who also serves as the Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) led by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has come out strongly against ICT and National Guidance Minister Chris Baryomunsi, telling him to resign if he can no longer handle the pressure of his office.

Kabanda’s remarks follow Baryomunsi’s repeated complaints that Gen. Muhoozi’s controversial posts on X (formerly Twitter) have made his work increasingly difficult. While appearing on a local radio station, Baryomunsi insisted that the Chief of Defence Forces’ tweets do not reflect official government positions and have put him in an awkward position as government spokesperson.

The comments sparked a fresh round of exchanges online, drawing in Gen. Muhoozi himself and PLU figures, with the war of words escalating rapidly.

“If Gen. Muhoozi makes your work difficult and you feel you can no longer perform your duties, then the honourable thing to do is to resign and allow someone capable to take over,” Kabanda said.

Kabanda went further to claim that Baryomunsi once reported Gen. Muhoozi to President Museveni, accusing the CDF of undermining his work. According to Kabanda, this only confirms that Baryomunsi is unfit to hold the ICT docket if he feels overwhelmed by social media commentary from a senior military officer.

In a sharp personal attack, Kabanda also revisited Baryomunsi’s political past, alleging that he was once among the “rebel youths” aligned with Gen. Mugisha Muntu’s PAFU, a group that opposed President Museveni’s government. He accused Baryomunsi of harboring long-standing hostility toward the ruling establishment.

Kabanda also resurrected Baryomunsi’s controversial remarks made over a decade ago, in which he allegedly blamed President Museveni and the NRA for the death of former Butaleja Woman MP, Cerinah Nebanda—comments that continue to haunt the minister politically.

The fallout shows no sign of slowing down. Gen. Muhoozi has since taken to X, declaring that Baryomunsi will not serve as a minister again and branding him a “traitor.” Baryomunsi responded by dismissing the attacks, saying he does not suffer from “Peter Pan syndrome” and adding that he was raised well by his father, unlike those who “drink alcohol and rant online.”

All eyes are now on President Yoweri Museveni, as pressure mounts for him to step in and resolve a standoff that is increasingly playing out in public—and online.
