- Phina Mugerwa Masanyalaze lost the previous Female Workers’ MP race but says she will not quit politics.
- She draws inspiration from Harland Sanders’ persistence despite failure.
- The singer believes the creative industry needs direct representation in Parliament to influence policy, especially on copyright laws.
Veteran female musician Phina Mugerwa Masanyalaze has made it clear that her political journey is far from over. Despite suffering a heavy defeat in the previous election for the Female Workers’ Member of Parliament seat, the “Bampasudde” singer says she is determined to keep trying until she succeeds.

Phina’s last attempt at Parliament ended in disappointment, with reports indicating she secured only one vote. However, the seasoned artiste appears unshaken by criticism and public mockery.
Speaking in a recent interview, she drew inspiration from Harland Sanders, the American entrepreneur who founded KFC after facing numerous rejections.
“Even Harland Sanders faced many failures before his breakthrough. What matters is refusing to give up on your dream,” Phina said.

She emphasized that her decision to venture into politics is rooted in her long experience in Uganda’s creative industry. According to her, the sector needs strong representation at the policy-making table.
“The creative industry has reached a point where we need our own people in Parliament to engage on policy matters. Government may want to help, but without representation, it becomes difficult to address our concerns,” she added.
Phina also addressed critics, including fellow musicians who mocked her loss. She said everyone is entitled to their opinion but maintained that her intentions are genuine and focused on improving the industry.
A member of the Uganda Musicians Association, Phina has been working closely with Eddy Kenzo’s Uganda National Musicians Federation to advocate for stronger copyright laws and better policies for creatives.
While she declined to publicly reveal her next political move, she hinted that this chapter is far from closed. All eyes are now on whether she will mount a stronger comeback in 2031.
