Musician Karole Kasita has applauded fellow artist Eddy Kenzo, describing him as a responsible and dependable leader of Uganda’s music industry, even as uncertainty grows over the long-awaited copyright law.

Karole recently expressed doubts about whether the government would finally pass the copyright law that musicians have been pushing for over the years to protect their work and earn fairly. She noted that despite artists strongly supporting the government during the recent election period, the law is yet to be approved—raising concerns among creatives.

According to Karole, her remarks eventually reached Eddy Kenzo, the President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), who has been leading efforts to see the copyright law enacted. She revealed that Kenzo personally reached out to her with reassuring words.

“When Eddy Kenzo saw my concerns, he texted me and assured me that the copyright law will be passed. I believe in him, and for now, I am content,” Karole Kasita said.

She added that because of the trust she has in Kenzo’s leadership, she remains hopeful that musicians will finally get the legal protection they deserve.

Karole was also asked why she often keeps her distance from federation activities, including the recent Annual General Meeting that attracted both members and non-members of the federation. She dismissed suggestions that her absence should be singled out, explaining that several artists missed the meeting and that she had prior commitments, adding that the meeting was organized on short notice.

When questioned about government-supported initiatives under the federation, such as scholarships offered to musicians, Karole was clear that she does not need them. She explained that she is an ambassador for Victoria University and already offers scholarships herself.
