• Luttamaguzi Ssemakula says he has no problem with the Shs5 billion pledge to bloggers.
  • He urged beneficiaries to use the money purposefully to improve their lives.
  • The pledge from President Museveni has sparked mixed reactions across the country.

Outgoing Nakaseke South Member of Parliament Luttamaguzi Ssemakula has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the Shs5 billion pledge made by Yoweri Museveni to members of the TikTokers and Bloggers Association.

The pledge has stirred widespread discussion across the country, with many critics questioning the decision and accusing some bloggers of seeking handouts from the government. Others, however, argue that the funds could support content creators and help grow Uganda’s digital economy.

Despite being known as a vocal critic of the government, Lutamaguzi Ssemakula said he has no issue with the President giving the money to the bloggers. Instead, he urged the beneficiaries to ensure the funds are used wisely and productively.

“I am not going to sit here and curse fellow Ugandans simply because they have received money,” Lutamaguzi said while addressing the matter.

“What matters now is that those who benefit should use it purposefully and invest in things that will improve their lives and finances.”

According to the legislator, opportunities such as these do not come often, and beneficiaries should take advantage of them to create lasting value rather than spend the money carelessly.

The Shs5 billion pledge has continued to generate mixed reactions on social media and in political circles. While critics say the move could encourage dependency, supporters insist the funds are going to Ugandans who can use them to improve their livelihoods and expand their online platforms.

As discussions continue, attention now turns to how the money will eventually be distributed among the members of the TikTokers and Bloggers Association and whether it will deliver the intended impact.
