Veteran musician Master Parrot has opened up about how his close friendship with National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, began during their school days.

Speaking during an appearance on Shalom Kawesu’s podcast, Master Parrot recounted that their bond dates back to 1996 when the two were Senior Four students at Kitante Hill School.
According to Parrot, their friendship started in the most unexpected way — over a simple samosa.
“At school we had a place called the poverty circle,” Parrot said. “It was where students who had no money for breakfast would stand during break time. One day as I was there hungry, I saw Bobi Wine — who was then calling himself Bobby Rob MC — heading to the canteen.”

Parrot explained that he gathered the courage to approach him despite not knowing him personally at the time.
“I told him I was hungry and asked if he could buy me a samosa. He didn’t hesitate. He called me and bought it for me. From that day, we started talking and became friends,” he narrated.
Their interactions soon shifted from casual conversations to music. Parrot revealed that he was aware of Bobi Wine’s passion for the raga genre and decided to showcase his own talent.
“I told him I could also sing and even imitated Jamaican artistes like Chaka Demus of Chaka Demus & Pliers. When I performed for him, he was impressed and said we should work together,” Parrot said.
That moment marked the beginning of both their musical partnership and a lasting friendship. Master Parrot would later become one of the artistes associated with the early Firebase crew, which was at the time regarded as one of the most vibrant and influential music camps in Uganda’s industry.
However, Parrot has recently been in the spotlight for troubling reasons. A viral video circulating on social media showed him appearing heavily intoxicated, with captions alleging that Bobi Wine had abandoned him and failed to offer support. The claims have since sparked debate online, although neither Bobi Wine nor his team has publicly commented on the matter.
Despite the controversy, Parrot’s latest revelation paints a nostalgic picture of humble beginnings, brotherhood, and the formative days of Uganda’s now-iconic music and political figure.
