• David Lewis Rubongoya, NUP Secretary General, urges Ugandans to take initiative and act independently following the disputed 2026 elections.
  • He emphasizes the party’s campaign efforts focused on educating citizens about their rights and fostering self-reliance.
  • Rubongoya warns of potential police violence while encouraging peaceful empowerment and proactive citizen engagement.

David Lewis Rubongoya, the Secretary General of the National Unity Platform, has become a familiar face in Uganda’s opposition politics and recently threw his hat into the ring as a contender for the Kampala Central MP seat.

Speaking to Flavia Namulindwa, a media personality, he was asked what answer should be given to supporters wondering, “What’s next?” after the disputed election given the fact that NUP’s presidential candidate and himself lost. Rubongoya offered a striking response: “Ask them what’s next.”

He explained that the party’s president has spent the past three months transversing the country during the presidential campaigns, sensitising and educating Ugandans about their rights.

According to him, this effort wasn’t just about rallying votes but also instilling confidence and self-reliance among citizens. “The times of waiting to be told what to do are over, Ugandans know what to do,” he said.

He also emphasized that the NUP leader has already given people the assurance they need to stand up for themselves, even in his absence. While at it, he also issued a word of caution as he has noted that most Ugandans have faced violence at the hands of the police when they attempted to protest peacefully the just concluded election results.
