Ugandan musician Pia Pounds, born Tracy Kirabo, has revealed that fellow singer John Blaq is her closest friend in the music industry.

While speaking in an interview with Flavia Namulindwa, Pia explained that their friendship dates back to around 2019 when both artists were still trying to find their footing in the music industry.

According to the singer, one of her earliest memories with John Blaq was when they both appeared for an interview hosted by media personality Mary Luswata. At the time, they were still upcoming musicians chasing their breakthrough moments.

“I remember the day we both went for an interview with Mary Luswata. We were still young in the industry and even took a pic together before going on set,” Pia recalled.

It was during that moment that she suggested they should collaborate in the future. However, John Blaq jokingly responded that the collaboration would only happen if both of them eventually got hit songs.

“He told me we would do a collabo when I get a hit and he also gets a hit. Luckily, that eventually happened and we worked on a song together, Style, which turned out well,” she added.

Pia Pounds also spoke about her time under Eddy Kenzo’s Big Talent label. The singer gained national attention while signed to the camp, although she says they never released strong songs together.

She revealed that while they recorded a few tracks, they were never promoted because she had not yet fully discovered her musical abilities. The only notable collaboration between them remains the remix of Tupate, which was recorded after she had already left the label.

Meanwhile, some social media users have pointed out that Pia’s music journey started earlier than she suggests, especially after an old song featuring veteran artist Ragga Dee resurfaced online.
