• Mutoni Shiko says Nubian Li’s victory belongs to voters across all political parties, including NRM and NUP
  • She says it is too early to judge his leadership until he officially assumes office
  • Mutoni rules out serving again as deputy mayor but remains open to public service

The wife of newly elected Nakawa Division Mayor, Nubian Li, has publicly reminded him that his victory belongs not to him personally, but to the people who voted him into office.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Spark TV, Mutoni Shiko said the mayor-elect must understand that his support came from Ugandans across the political divide, including supporters of the NRM, NUP, and other political affiliations.

She emphasized that Nubian Li now carries the responsibility of serving all residents of Nakawa Division without political bias, putting unity and public service above party interests.

“He was voted for by people from different political parties. So he must serve everyone without political disunity, but as one people who entrusted him with power,” Mutoni Shiko said.

When asked whether she believes Nubian Li is capable of handling the office, given that this is his first elective leadership role, Mutoni said it would be premature to pass judgment.

She noted that while she is unsure at this stage, it would be unfair to assess his leadership before he officially assumes office, adding that his conduct while in power will determine whether he was the right choice for the position.

Mutoni, who served as Deputy Mayor of Nakawa Division in the outgoing regime under Paul Mugambe, was also asked whether she would help her husband serve the people, given her experience.

She said she would be willing to offer guidance if it is welcomed, stressing that her interest remains public service. However, she clarified that she does not expect to continue as deputy mayor since the position is reserved for elected councillors — a seat she did not secure in the recent elections.

Addressing claims that she was stepping away from politics, Mutoni dismissed the reports, saying she remains available to serve in any capacity.

She also brushed off persistent rumors suggesting her marriage to Nubian Li is facing difficulties, attributing the speculation to social media scandals with no factual basis.

Nubian Li defeated incumbent Paul Mugambe in the Nakawa Division mayoral race, marking a significant political shift in the area.
