- Comedians say government funds were released but never reached them
- They allege forged signatures were used to collect the money
- Alex Muhangi has been appointed to lead their unified push for accountability
Ugandan comedians led by Alex Muhangi, Patrick Salvado and Teacher Mpamire have united to demand money they say was released by government but never reached them.

Speaking at a press conference held this week, the comedians said funds meant to support their work were disbursed, but none of them has received a single coin.
Patrick Salvado told journalists that despite repeated follow-ups, the situation has remained unclear.
“We have not received a single penny from the Uganda National Musicians Federation. Everywhere we go, we are told the money was released, yet none of us has seen it,” Salvado said.

The comedians said they were shocked to learn that in some offices, records indicate the money was already picked — using forged signatures.
“When we go to offices where the money was supposedly disbursed, we find signatures that are not ours. Someone signed and took the money on our behalf,” Salvado added.
They questioned how such payments could be made without proper verification.
“We are well-known public figures. Due diligence should clearly show that it wasn’t us who collected this money,” he said.
The group emphasized that their actions are not driven by the current political campaign season. Instead, they say they are pushing for long-term recognition and protection of comedians as professionals.
“This is not about campaigns. It’s about our future and making sure comedians are supported even beyond elections,” Salvado noted.
He added that while they would welcome support during campaign periods, it is not their main focus.
After holding three meetings, the comedians agreed to speak with one voice and appointed Alex Muhangi to lead their efforts as president of the group.
Salvado praised Muhangi for his contribution to the industry.
“The comedy industry in Uganda has survived and grown largely because of Alex Muhangi’s effort,” he said, as he symbolically presented him with flowers.
The comedians say they will continue engaging authorities until the matter is fully addressed.
