Sarah Nakayi has shared a heartfelt account of how she met her husband, legendary veteran musician Mesach Semakula, and the values that have sustained their relationship over the years.

Speaking about their love story, Nakayi revealed that their first meeting happened in Matugga, where she had escorted her sister to watch a performance by Golden Band. It was during that show that Mesach noticed her and expressed interest.

The two began communicating shortly after, although keeping in touch proved difficult at the time since Nakayi was still in school and constantly moving between home and classes. She noted that their conversations were limited, and even her sister initially had no idea the two were growing close.

As their bond strengthened, Nakayi admitted that her affection for the singer grew deeply — sometimes leading her to make bold decisions just to see him.

 “I met him when I had escorted my sister to watch Golden Band perform. He is the one who saw me first and admired me,” Nakayi recalled.

 “At one point, I would even escape from school just to go and see him because I wanted to be around him.”

When their relationship became serious and they started living together, Nakayi says she chose to fully trust and listen to him. Having been young at the time, she approached the relationship with an open mind, allowing him to guide her through different aspects of life.

She emphasized that respect has been a cornerstone of their marriage. According to her, Mesach speaks to her with kindness and fairness, which has made it easy for her to reciprocate respect.

Nakayi added that she rarely challenges his decisions, while he, in return, ensures she feels valued and heard. She believes this mutual respect and understanding is what has enabled their relationship to stand the test of time — and she hopes it continues that way forever.
