Veteran singer and actress Hellen Lukoma has opened up about her experience as a member of the once-dominant girl group Obsessions, revealing that despite the fame and lessons gained, she regrets being part of the group.

Obsessions rose to prominence in Uganda’s music industry in the early 2000s, becoming one of the most celebrated female music groups before eventually disbanding in the mid-2000s.

Speaking about her time in the group, Hellen described it as a chapter from her youthful years that came with both valuable lessons and personal challenges. While she acknowledges that the experience shaped parts of her life, she admitted that it is not a phase she looks back on fondly.

“That was a period in my youthful life and I learned a lot from it, but it is not something I would not want to go back to,” Hellen said.

She went on to explain that as she has grown older and matured, her perspective on that chapter has changed significantly.

“I regret being there and I pray God never puts me in such a situation again,” she added.

Hellen also addressed questions about her former groupmate Sheebah Karungi and the public perception surrounding the singer. According to Hellen, their relationship was cordial but not particularly close since Sheebah joined the group around the time she was preparing to leave.

She explained that while they occasionally interacted, they were never close friends. Hellen further emphasized that opinions about Sheebah remain personal.

Now less active on the music scene, Hellen says she remains busy with several ventures, including acting, selling clothes online, and continuing to make music behind the scenes, even though the public may not see her as frequently as before.
