The manager of Uganda’s globally celebrated dance group, Triplets Ghetto Kids, Dauda Kavuma, has opened up about the remarkable journey that led the young dancers to secure a performance slot alongside Colombian superstar Shakira at the World Cup finals.

Speaking during an interview on Galaxy FM, Kavuma shared that the connection with the international music icon began through a dance challenge that the group created for one of Shakira’s songs featured on the soundtrack of the animated movie Zootopia.
According to him, the challenge quickly gained traction online and eventually caught the attention of Shakira’s management team.
“We set ourselves up through that challenge and indeed her management saw it and reached out to us,” he revealed.

Following the discovery, Shakira’s team immediately expressed interest in working with the Ugandan dancers and invited them to travel abroad for a video shoot. However, due to logistical challenges, the trip could not happen immediately.
“They needed us to travel and shoot a video together immediately, but it wasn’t possible. We traveled after two days,” Kavuma explained.
The collaboration eventually materialized, with the Triplets Ghetto Kids joining Shakira for the filming of a music video tied to a World Cup song project. Kavuma noted that all travel and accommodation expenses were fully catered for by Shakira’s management.
“The video was shot, and it was for a World Cup song,” he said. “When everything was done, we all traveled back to Uganda and all expenses were paid by Shakira’s management.”
After the song’s release, the Triplets Ghetto Kids continued promoting it through another dance challenge that once again attracted global attention and drew praise from Shakira herself.
Their efforts ultimately earned them an invitation to perform with the international star at the World Cup finals.
“We will perform at the last match of the World Cup finals,” the manager confirmed.
While many would expect such a prestigious opportunity to come with a significant financial reward, Kavuma disclosed that the project is primarily centered around a charitable cause.
He explained that proceeds associated with the song will go toward supporting underprivileged children around the world by helping cover their school fees.
“The song has a cause to collect school fees for children all over the world and when we get there, we shall also discuss how to support the Triplets Ghetto Kids on the same,” he said.
The upcoming performance marks yet another milestone for the Triplets Ghetto Kids, who have built an international reputation through their energetic dance routines, viral social media content, and collaborations with some of the world’s biggest entertainers.
Their journey from the streets of Kampala to one of football’s biggest global stages continues to inspire young people across Uganda and beyond.
