Businesswoman and socialite Zari Hassan has questioned the necessity of primary school trips following the recent tragic school bus accident, while extending her heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.

Speaking emotionally about the incident, Zari wondered why young learners are taken on long-distance excursions, arguing that the risks involved may outweigh the intended educational benefits.

“Why would you take school children from Kampala all the way to Kapchorwa? For what?” she questioned, adding that parents are often required to pay significant amounts of money for such trips.

Zari also revealed that she has never allowed her own children to participate in school trips, despite schools regularly organizing them.

“My children don’t go on school trips. They bring those sheets home asking for permission, and I just say no. Sometimes when Shakib is around, they ask him to sign instead, but I tell him children always die from such things,” she said.

She further questioned the value of common educational excursions, including visits to zoos and airports, saying she does not believe they leave a lasting impact on children.

“We used to visit the airport too when we were young, but if you ask me today what I gained from it, I don’t really see anything,” she explained.

While acknowledging that nothing can truly comfort parents who have lost their children, Zari offered prayers for strength during such an unimaginable time.

She reflected on her own family’s experience with grief, revealing that her mother lost a child and never fully recovered from the pain.

“There’s nothing you can really say to parents who have lost their children. I just pray that God strengthens their hearts because my mother lost a child too, and even years later she had never healed from that loss. It runs so deep,” she said.
