Veteran musician Lord Fred Sebatta has expressed his willingness to collaborate with artists from the new generation, provided Uganda’s copyright laws are effectively enforced.

Speaking about the state of copyright in the country, Sebatta noted that while the subject has been widely discussed, there is still much to learn and, more importantly, put into practice.

“There’s been a lot said about copyright in Uganda, but we first have to make it work,” he said.

Sebatta explained that as the writer and singer of his own music, he deserves legal protection over his creations, especially when entering collaborations with other artists.

“I wrote and sang my songs, so I should be able to protect them in case any artist asks for a collaboration,” he said.

He added that once copyright protection is implemented transparently and artists are assured that their work is secure, he would have no reservations about working with the younger generation.
