President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has revealed that the late Omukama Oyo Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV left behind a young boy heir who will be introduced to the public at the appropriate time.

The president made the revelation while extending his condolences to the Tooro Kingdom following the death of the young king on his official social media pages.

According to him, he learnt about the existence of the heir during a telephone conversation with Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth Bagaaya Kemigisa.

“Fortunately, in a telephone call, Her Royal Highness Kemigisa told me that H.H. Oyo left a young boy heir that will be introduced to the public at the right time,” Museveni said.

The revelation comes as Tooro mourns the passing of Omukama Oyo, who was one of Uganda’s youngest-serving cultural leaders.

President Museveni also commended Omukama Oyo for the relationship he maintained with the Central Government, noting that he worked well with government and avoided using cultural institutions to promote sectarianism.

He urged other cultural leaders to understand the importance of maintaining a similar approach.

In honour of the late king, Museveni directed that Omukama Oyo be accorded an official burial. He further ordered that all flags fly at half-mast for three days.

The three days, according to the President, will include the day before the burial, the burial day and the day after, as Uganda pays tribute to the late Omukama.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Museveni concluded.
