• Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga says he has zero interest in a presidential run right now.
• The top official admitted he could lead the country but claimed his royal duties leave him totally swamped.
• Mayiga told Kingdom TV that being prime minister is already too much work to add the presidency to his plate.

Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, has revealed that he has no immediate plans of contesting for the presidency, citing his existing responsibilities as the kingdom’s prime minister.

While appearing on Kingdom TV, the Katikkiro was asked whether he would consider running for president if people believed in him and pushed for him to take up the position.

In response, he acknowledged that there are several people, including himself, who could become president but explained that his current responsibilities to the Kabaka and Buganda Kingdom already demand a lot of his time and energy.

“I believe that there are so many people who can become president, including myself, but I do have enough responsibility to do for my king,” he said.

He added that serving as Katikkiro is already a demanding responsibility and taking on the presidency would make things even more hectic.

Owek. Mayiga further clarified that he has no personal plans of seeking the presidential seat, although he acknowledged that the future is ultimately in God’s hands and that people do not always know what He has planned for them.
