  • Cindy Sanyu called for dialogue with the government after concerts and public gatherings were suspended due to the Ebola outbreak.
  • She warned that artists fear experiencing another difficult lockdown period similar to the COVID-19 era.
  • Big Eye and Daxx Vibes also expressed concern but remain hopeful the suspension will be temporary.

Cindy Sanyu has spoken out following the suspension of concerts and public gatherings due to the Ebola outbreak, expressing concern about the possible impact on Uganda’s entertainment industry.

Speaking during a phone interview with Galaxy TV, Cindy revealed that artists are worried about experiencing another difficult period similar to the COVID-19 lockdown era, when the entertainment industry was brought to a standstill.

She explained that no one in the creative sector wants to relive the hardships that came with the previous lockdown restrictions, describing the current situation as desperate and uncertain for many entertainers.

“My plan right now is to have a meeting with the ministry and have a dialogue to see how we can be assisted during this time,” Cindy said.

The UMA President further noted that if the situation worsens, some artists may once again find themselves struggling financially to the extent of “traveling to Gulu to beg,” referencing the difficult moments some entertainers faced during the pandemic period.

Cindy emphasized the need for cooperation between the government and the entertainment industry, urging both sides to negotiate a middle ground that allows artists to continue surviving and sustaining themselves peacefully during the suspension period.

Meanwhile, fellow musicians Big Eye and Daxx Vibes also shared their concerns, noting that the temporary suspension of concerts could deal a heavy blow to artists and event organizers.

However, the two artists expressed hope that the restrictions will only last for a short period and that the entertainment industry will soon resume normal operations.
