Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda has publicly defended himself against claims that he betrayed former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among following her dramatic fall from power.

Among, who was removed from her position as Speaker weeks ago and is currently facing allegations related to corruption, abuse of office, and mismanagement of public funds, has seen several former allies distance themselves from her. Among them was Kabanda, who was recently seen backing current Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth, prompting speculation that he had turned against the Bukedea Woman MP.
However, in an exclusive interview, Kabanda dismissed the allegations and insisted that he was never responsible for Among’s troubles. To support his claims, he revealed portions of private conversations exchanged between them, saying he only chose to do so after she allegedly attempted to tarnish his reputation before President Yoweri Museveni.
“I would never have wanted to expose our private conversations, but I had to defend myself after she accused me of asking her for Shs3 billion to take to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.”

Kabanda said the accusation was completely false and unfair, especially considering the support he had previously offered Among during some of her most difficult political battles, including controversies surrounding Parliament’s expenditure and other public scandals.
In some of the messages he shared, Among reportedly expressed affection towards the youthful legislator, although the exact nature of that affection remains unclear.
“I have never asked Anita Among for a single coin. In all the situations where I stood with her and defended her, I did so without expecting any payment.”
The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General further stated that Among’s downfall was the result of her own actions rather than any political betrayal from him. Kabanda also revealed that despite the public fallout, he has remained in contact with her and was still checking on her well-being as recently as three weeks ago.
He maintained that he harbors no personal grudge against the former Speaker and wants the public to understand that he was never part of any campaign to bring her down.
