Ugandan singer Gloria Bugie has revealed that her contribution to music goes far beyond singing, describing herself as a well-rounded artist who actively participates in songwriting, production, and the overall creative process behind her projects.

Speaking about her approach to music, the “Panama” hitmaker dismissed the notion that she simply performs songs written by other people. Instead, she said she is always involved whenever her music is being created, contributing ideas, lyrics, melodies, and creative direction.

“I’m not the kind of artist who is simply handed a song and told to sing it. I always contribute to the writing process and add my own ideas to the music.”

Bugie explained that she works closely with writers and producers to ensure her artistic vision is reflected in the final product. She added that she remains present throughout production, helping shape songs from the earliest stages until completion.

The singer was also asked about her collaboration with Vyroota, particularly why popular dancer, Dance Mamweta featured prominently in the project despite not being a singer.

According to Bugie, the decision was intentional because they wanted to tap into Mamweta’s creativity and dancing talent to elevate the visual and artistic appeal of the song.

“Mamweta is one of the best dancers in Uganda. We wanted to give her an opportunity to bring her ideas to life, and it worked perfectly for the project.”

Additionally, Bugie noted that she enjoys collaborating with young creatives, especially Gen Z’s, because of their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.

On her other collaboration with singer King Saha, Bugie revealed that he was responsible for writing the song. However, she maintained that songwriting remains one of her strengths and an important part of her artistic identity.
