The Government of Uganda is set to honour the late Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu by constructing a house on his land in Mukono, as part of efforts to preserve his legacy and recognise his contribution to Uganda’s entertainment industry.

The announcement was made during a visit to the late musician’s family, where State Minister for Information and Technology Hon. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebuggwawo joined other government officials to pay tribute to the veteran performer.
Speaking to the media after the visit, Ssebuggwawo said government maintains a working relationship with Uganda’s creative sector and would support efforts to honour Matovu’s memory.
“Government has a good working relationship with the different sectors of art, and through this relationship, we are going to help honour the memory of the late Moses Matovu by constructing a house on his land.”

“Government contributed Shs10 million to help with feeding and the stay of those who are still mourning the singer at his home.”
Matovu, one of Uganda’s celebrated musicians and a longtime member of Afrigo Band, died last month. His death came after he was reportedly involved in a road incident, although details surrounding the circumstances remained under investigation at the time.
The planned house makes Matovu one of the latest Ugandan entertainers whose contribution to the arts has received formal recognition from government.
His family, fellow musicians and fans continue to mourn the veteran performer, whose career spanned several decades.
