Ugandan singer and songwriter Dokta Brain is taking matters into his own hands after saying music promoters have not yet shown enough belief in his brand.

The singer is set to hold his maiden concert at Skyz Hotel in Naguru on September 26, with the event being organised by Dokta Brain alongside friends who believe in his music and are supporting the project.

Speaking in an interview with Galaxy FM, Dokta Brain said the decision to organise his own concert was partly driven by the lack of confidence he feels from promoters.

“Promoters haven’t yet appreciated me and started seeing me as a performer they can invest in.”

However, he said the concert is also intended to give him a platform to demonstrate the kind of environment and treatment he expects when performing at shows.

Dokta Brain explained that he is not particularly comfortable performing before very large crowds, making the 1,000-capacity venue an ideal starting point. He expects to recognise a significant portion of the audience, which he believes will help him overcome his stage anxiety.

“I know at least 60 percent of the people there, so the next time I find them at a concert, I won’t be afraid to take the stage.”

The singer also praised fellow industry player Artin Pro, who is reportedly working on a project of his own.

Dokta Brain further revealed why he has not opened a personal recording studio. He said his intention in the industry has been to help others make money, noting that several studios are financially affiliated with him. Starting his own studio, he believes, could take business away from those partners.

Dokta Brain, whose songwriting credits include Winnie Nwagi’s “Musawo,” has continued building his profile as both a songwriter and recording artist.
