Ugandan veteran singer and actress Hellen Lukoma has sparked debate on social media after revealing the staggering amount she spends on her five-year-old son’s education and lifestyle.

Speaking during an interview with a local content creator, Lukoma disclosed that her son, who is still in nursery school, costs her more than Shs5 million in school fees every term. She explained that the tuition is only part of the expenses, as there are additional requirements that come with raising a child in an affluent environment.

According to the actress, transportation is also a major consideration, revealing that her son sometimes refuses to use her Range Rover and instead prefers being driven in his father’s Mercedes-Benz.

“The school fees alone are over Shs5 million per term, and that is before adding transport and other requirements,” Lukoma revealed.

The actress said many people are often shocked by the figures parents spend on their children, yet society also criticizes parents who fail to provide quality education and comfortable lives for their children.

Lukoma noted that modern parenting has become financially demanding, which partly explains why many couples today choose to have fewer children so they can adequately provide for them.

“People nowadays give birth to fewer children because they want to give them the best life possible — sometimes a life they never had themselves,” she said.

Despite the financial pressure, Lukoma maintained that she has no regrets about the lifestyle she chose for her children. She said she understood the responsibilities that come with parenthood long before becoming a mother and remains committed to ensuring her children get the best opportunities in life.

The singer added that while parenting is expensive, she is determined to continue investing in her children’s future and well-being.
