The official confirmation has come from the Tooro Kingdom, bringing an end to days of uncertainty surrounding the health of the monarch. On August 27, the Kingdom had earlier dismissed reports claiming that King Oyo had passed away, saying instead that he was in a “critical condition” and calling on the public and well-wishers to keep him in their prayers.

Born on April 16, 1992, King Oyo ascended the throne at just three years old following the passing of his father, His Royal Majesty King Patrick David Matthew Rwamuhokya Kaboyo Olimi III, on August 26, 1995. He was installed as heir-apparent and crowned King of Tooro on September 12, 1995.

His coronation made him the world’s youngest reigning monarch, earning him recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records. He went on to serve as the head of the Tooro Kingdom for nearly three decades, becoming one of Uganda’s most prominent traditional leaders.

The Tooro Kingdom is more than two centuries old, having been established as a monarchy in 1822, with King Oyo being the latest monarch in a long line of rulers.

Following his passing, the Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire, assured the people of Tooro that the monarchy will continue.

“The continuity of the Crown is assured. His Majesty leaves behind a Prince as his heir, whose identity will be formally revealed at the appropriate time, in accordance with the traditions and customs of Tooro Kingdom,” Rwomiire said.

The statement confirms that King Oyo leaves behind a son who is expected to succeed him, although the identity of the heir will only be officially announced at a later stage in accordance with Tooro Kingdom traditions and customs.
