Ugandan R&B singer Maro has opened up about the circumstances that led to his departure from Bobi Wine’s Fire Base Crew, revealing that his father was the main reason he left the Kamwokya-based music group.

Speaking during an interview with Sanyuka TV, Maro, whose real name is Ronald Magada, recalled that Fire Base was where his music career gained momentum after he was spotted by Mikie Wine, Bobi Wine’s younger brother.

The two went on to collaborate on a song titled Toneeraga, which helped introduce Maro to a wider audience and establish his presence on Uganda’s music scene.

However, his stay at Fire Base was short-lived, as he eventually moved to Aziz Azion’s Westend Entertainment.

According to Maro, his father was uncomfortable with the company he was keeping and repeatedly looked for him, fearing that associating with the group would expose him to behaviours such as smoking and drinking.

“Truthfully, I had wanted to move out of Firebase for one reason. My father was always looking for me,” Maro revealed.

He, however, explained that the public perception of Fire Base was different from what actually happened within the group, arguing that people often confused the members’ public image with their private lives.

“Some people might even think that Mikie Wine takes alcohol, yet all the time I was with him, I knew he never did. He never drank alcohol,” he explained.

Maro added that Mikie Wine’s lifestyle was a clear example of how the group’s public persona could mislead outsiders about its members.

Meanwhile, the singer is preparing for The Great Maro Concert, scheduled for December 4, 2026, at UMA Showgrounds in Lugogo.

During the interview, he also named his standout musicians of the year, highlighting Jowy Landa and Tracy Melon among female artistes. His male selections included Vyroota, John Blaq, Taf, Soldier from Jinja, Acidic Vokoz and himself.
