  • Maro says talented vocal artists are consistently creating authentic music and will eventually gain recognition.

Musician Maro believes the Ugandan music industry is currently undergoing a necessary transformation, saying the challenges and changes being witnessed are all part of a process meant to revive and strengthen the sector.

Speaking about the current state of the industry, Maro explained that the music scene had to first decline for it to eventually rise again in a better and more organized form.

According to him, the industry is in desperate need of an overhaul and the ongoing shifts should not be viewed entirely as negative, but rather as a stage of growth and renewal.

“The music industry needs an overhaul,” he said, noting that the processes the industry has been going through are important for its future development.

Maro also addressed the dominance of what many describe as “bubble gum music,” explaining that artists cannot simply stop making such music when fans continue to heavily consume and support it.

He argued that vocal artists and musicians focused on deeper artistry have little power to immediately change the trend as long as audiences still embrace the current sound.

“There are new artists on the block trying to revolve the music industry and when you listen to their music, it is top cream,” he explained.

The singer further pointed out that many talented vocalists are putting in tremendous effort to produce quality music, but unfortunately, only a few of them are recognized in the mainstream music scene.

Instead of directly fighting the popularity of bubble gum music, Maro says these artists have chosen a different approach by consistently creating authentic music and patiently building their audiences.

He believes that with time, fans will eventually begin to appreciate and recognize the true value of real vocal and meaningful music.
