Ugandan singer Shakira Shakiraa has opened up about why she has been largely absent from the public eye in recent years, revealing that she shifted much of her focus from music to business.

Speaking during an interview with a local YouTuber, the Lokomoti singer explained that she ventured into the clothing business, a move that now takes up most of her time. According to Shakiraa, she currently runs a shop downtown and is deeply involved in sourcing and selling quality clothes and merchandise to customers.

The singer said the transition into business was not something she had planned for herself at first. Instead, she credits her manager for pushing her into it after noticing how much money she was spending without building something sustainable.

“My manager is the one who dragged me into the clothing business. I wasn’t interested at first, but he felt I was wasting a lot of money.”

Shakiraa revealed that her manager eventually took her to China, where she discovered the scale of the fashion business and immediately saw its potential. What started as reluctance quickly turned into a serious investment decision.

She disclosed that she began with a vision of building a boutique and invested more than $70,000, which she estimated at about Shs200 million. However, she stressed that not everyone needs such a large amount to start, saying even those with $2,000 to $5,000 can begin small and grow steadily.

“When you reach China, you find so many quality things, and if you want to sell the best back home, you end up spending more than you planned.”

Shakiraa added that chasing quality and keeping up with new designs often stretches her budget, but she has no regrets about the move. For now, business has become a major priority in her life, even as fans continue to hope for more music from her.
