Veteran Ugandan singer Sheila Nvannungi has dismissed long-standing claims that she retired from music, saying she merely transitioned into a different season of life while remaining deeply connected to her passion.

Speaking about her journey, the Doctor singer explained that music remains an important part of who she is and continues to be one of the ways she serves God. According to Sheila, she did not abandon music but shifted away from the mainstream industry after discovering a greater purpose.

“Music is a very big part of my life and my purpose. I didn’t quit music—I simply transitioned from being a mainstream musician.”

Sheila also rejected suggestions that her husband influenced her decision to step away from the spotlight. She described him as her biggest supporter, saying he has always encouraged her to continue singing rather than stop.

The veteran musician further reflected on how her perspective on life has changed over the years. While she once believed success was mainly about making money and living comfortably, she now believes true fulfillment comes from discovering and living out one’s purpose.

“People shouldn’t say I abandoned music. I transitioned into another phase of life, and I’m grateful because music opened many doors for me.”

Sheila also clarified that she has never relocated abroad as many people believe. She said she only travels outside Uganda for music performances and other work engagements before returning home, adding that she is proud to be Ugandan.

Addressing her music catalogue, Sheila noted that she never considered herself a secular musician because her songs were largely centered on love, which she believes reflects God’s nature.

Although she no longer actively pursues mainstream entertainment, Sheila says music continues to bless her life, insisting she is still benefiting from the foundation it gave her while embracing a purpose-driven chapter.
