- Zambaali Mukasa wants engineer Stephen Kaweesa arrested over his Shs600 million NUP ticket claims.
- Kaweesa alleges he sold property and took loans expecting to secure the Nansana MP ticket.
- Mukasa says admitting to paying for a political ticket is a crime under Ugandan law.
The Member of Parliament-elect for Nansana Municipality, Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, has called for the arrest of engineer Stephen Kaweesa following claims that he was conned out of Shs600 million while seeking a parliamentary ticket from National Unity Platform.

Kaweesa recently appeared on several media platforms alleging that the party leadership, including opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, promised him the NUP ticket for Nansana Municipality during the last elections.
According to Kaweesa, he sold some of his properties and also took out loans to raise the money he believed would secure him the party card. However, he says he was later shocked when the ticket was instead given to Mukasa, leaving him in heavy debt.
While appearing on BBS Telefayina, Mukasa dismissed the claims and said Kaweesa should face legal consequences for admitting involvement in the monetisation of politics.

“If he is saying he paid money for a political ticket, then that is a crime under Ugandan law. Instead of complaining in the media, he should be answering to the authorities,” Mukasa said.
Mukasa further argued that such claims undermine democratic processes and damage the credibility of political competition in the country.
“Politics should not be about who has the most money. If someone is admitting that they tried to buy a position, then the law should take its course,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kaweesa has been appealing to Yoweri Museveni for help, saying he is now struggling to service loans after selling property to raise the alleged funds.
Some political observers, however, believe the public outcry could be part of a strategy aimed at attracting sympathy from the president and the public.
