- Mamideb says Valentine’s Day should not outweigh a man’s year-long consistency and responsibility
- She encourages women to communicate and even plan Valentine’s moments instead of silently feeling disappointed
- She warns against buying oneself gifts for social media validation, calling Valentine’s “just one day”
As Valentine’s Day draws closer, Ugandan entrepreneur and reality TV star Deborah Nantongo, popularly known as Mamideb, has shared a timely message for women feeling the pressure that often comes with the season of love.

Mamideb urges women not to let the excitement—or disappointment—of a single day overshadow the bigger picture in their relationships. She notes that if a man has been steady and dependable throughout the year, missing out on a Valentine’s Day gift shouldn’t suddenly cancel out all the love and support he’s consistently shown.
From paying school fees without being reminded to taking care of the home and showing up when it matters, she believes those everyday actions speak louder than flowers bought on one day.
“If your man has been consistent, pays school fees without you reminding him, and takes care of the home, don’t let this one day take you away from the bigger picture,” she said.

She also acknowledged a reality many people shy away from: not all men are naturally romantic or good planners. Instead of quietly nursing disappointment, Mamideb encouraged women to take the lead.
Whether it’s planning something simple or directly asking their partner to spend quality time together, she insists there’s nothing wrong with creating the experience you want.
Wrapping up her message, Mamideb offered a strong warning against what she sees as a growing social media trend—women buying themselves flowers or gifts just for online validation. “Don’t be that girl who surprises herself with flowers on Valentine’s for social media likes,” she cautioned. “It’s just one day.”
