Musician Patrick Musasizi, popularly known as Chozen Blood, has opened up about his deeply personal five-year healing journey, revealing that he deliberately stepped away from romantic relationships to focus on rebuilding himself after the loss of his mother.

The Sharpshooter hitmaker made the remarks during an appearance on NRG FM with Mr. Henrie, where he reflected on grief, self-discovery and why he believes self-love must come before loving someone else.
Chozen Blood said his healing journey began during the COVID-19 lockdown after his mother’s death. He explained that working out at the gym helped him build resilience, self-awareness and confidence, while also teaching him the importance of setting healthy boundaries in relationships.
“You can never give what you don’t have. You can never pour from an empty cup.”

According to the singer, he realised that many of his past relationships were affected by his lack of self-awareness and unclear personal boundaries. As a result, he decided to put his love life on hold until he was in a healthier emotional space.
“I had to learn that my relationships were affecting me because I didn’t know my boundaries. Right now, I choose to pause relationships because I’m still on my self-discovery journey,” he explained.
During the discussion, Chozen Blood also weighed in on the meaning of love, agreeing that love is more than just an emotion.
“At the moment, I choose to love myself first. Love is a choice.”
When Mr. Henrie jokingly suggested that his current mindset made him “polygamous,” the musician laughed off the remark, saying he simply finds it difficult to attach himself romantically to one person while he continues working on himself.
He encouraged listeners to prioritise their own healing before seeking romantic relationships, insisting that genuine love starts with self-love.
“Love yourself. Heal yourself to heal the world,” Chozen Blood concluded, urging people to invest in their personal growth before pouring into others.
