- Walukagga accuses Mayinja of betraying NUP despite earlier agreement to a lucrative deal
- Allegations include a billion-shilling offer and meeting with President Museveni in Kisozi
- Mayinja maintains he left NUP after being denied a promised parliamentary ticket
Ugandan singer Mathias Walukaga has come out strongly to challenge claims made by fellow artist Ronald Mayinja regarding his fallout with National Unity Platform (NUP) and its leader Bobi Wine.

During a recent interview hosted by Frank Ntambi and Shalom Kawesi, Mayinja claimed he felt betrayed after allegedly being promised a parliamentary ticket for Gomba, only for it to be “sold to the highest bidder.” He said this led to his decision to shift allegiance to the ruling party.
However, appearing on the same platform, Walukagga dismissed these claims and instead accused Mayinja of being the one who turned his back on the struggle.
“We were approached with an offer disguised as an NGO deal, with promises of over a billion shillings and even a brand-new V8,” Walukaga revealed.

According to Walukaga, the proposal involved meeting President Yoweri Museveni in Kisozi, which immediately raised red flags. He said he consulted Mayinja and fellow associate Tuli Ku Bunkeke, and they initially agreed to reject the offer.
“I was shocked when I later heard that Mayinja had gone ahead to Kisozi and taken the money. That is when I knew things had changed,” he added.
Walukagga further recounted confronting Mayinja after his performance at the Enkuuka festival, warning him that the backlash from supporters would outweigh the applause he had just received.
The fallout between Mayinja and NUP later became public, with the singer distancing himself from Bobi Wine.
Interestingly, Walukagga himself faced controversy in the recent elections after his ticket was nullified, later admitting he had sold it to another aspirant. Despite this, he noted that there was no official response from NUP regarding the matter.
