  • Robert Kabushenga has declared interest in the FUFA presidency.
  • He claims his 2013 bid was blocked after laws were amended.
  • His announcement comes amid growing debate surrounding football leadership and developments involving Moses Magogo’s wife, Anita Among.

Former Vision Group CEO Robert Kabushenga has revealed that he is ready to stand as the next FUFA president.

Kabushenga made the revelation through a post on X, saying that back in June 2013 he had planned to run for the presidency of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) but was blocked after the laws were allegedly amended, a development that eventually paved way for current president Moses Magogo to take office.

Kabushenga, however, says he is now fully aware of the rigours and demands surrounding the position and is once again offering himself to lead Uganda’s football governing body.

The FUFA presidency is currently occupied by Moses Magogo, who was re-elected and whose current term is expected to run until 2029, with Uganda entering a crucial phase in its football history and preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“In June 2013, I wanted to contest for the @OfficialFUFA Presidency. The law was quickly amended to keep me out. I am back to say I am still available for that task. I can bring about the footballing glory all we Ugandans dream of. Time to save our football from thieves. Let’s take back our game.”

Kabushenga’s announcement has since sent shockwaves among football lovers and Ugandans at large, with many already debating what his possible candidature could mean for the future of the game.

His declaration also comes at a politically sensitive time for Magogo. The FUFA president’s wife, former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, is currently facing investigations linked to corruption and alleged illicit wealth accumulation, with security agencies recently conducting searches at some of her residences and offices as part of ongoing inquiries.

While no allegations have been levelled against Magogo himself, public discussion around the developments has inevitably drawn attention toward the football administrator, with some observers speculating about the possible impact on his leadership going forward.

Even though the next FUFA election remains years away, Kabushenga’s early declaration has already reignited conversations about accountability, leadership and the future direction of Ugandan football.
