Masaka City Woman MP and State Minister for local government, Hon. Justine Nameere has hit back at Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi following remarks he made during the burial of a National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter.

Ssenyonyi questioned Nameere’s political legitimacy, alleging that she was never genuinely elected into the parliamentary position she holds and instead benefited from electoral irregularities. The comments quickly attracted Nameere ‘s attention.
Nameere, known for her outspoken and often controversial political style, has not held back in her response. She accused Ssenyonyi of focusing on political attacks at a time when the deceased’s family needed support and comfort.
“At such a moment, leaders should be speaking about how they can help the bereaved family and the community rather than turning a funeral into a political platform,” Nameere said.

The minister further claimed that while attending the induction of newly appointed ministers at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi, President Museveni emphasized the importance of focusing on productive matters and avoiding unnecessary distractions.
“We were reminded to dedicate our efforts to issues that improve people’s lives. Political insults and endless attacks do not solve the challenges facing ordinary Ugandans,” she added.
Nameere also launched a blistering attack on some opposition politicians, alleging that individuals who portray themselves as morally upright often have personal shortcomings hidden from the public eye.
She further stated that Ugandans should appreciate President Museveni’s decision to appoint her to ministerial office, arguing that her current responsibilities require restraint and maturity. According to Nameere, were it not for the demands of her ministerial role, she would have responded even more aggressively to her critics.
