Ugandan singer David Lutalo has boldly declared that he considers himself a better singer than Tanzanian Bongo Flava superstar Diamond Platnumz.

Lutalo made the remarks during an interview on Sanyuka TV after being asked about the growing trend of fans referring to him as “Diamond Lutalo.” The nickname emerged following the release of his latest Swahili hit, Sija Lala, whose style, visuals, and overall presentation drew comparisons to the Wasafi boss.

The comparisons quickly spread across social media, with many fans praising Lutalo’s ability to deliver a Swahili song that resonated beyond Uganda’s borders. However, the singer revealed that he is not particularly fond of the nickname.

“Being called Diamond Lutalo does not make me happy. My name is David Lutalo, and that is how I want people to know me.”

Despite rejecting the comparison, Lutalo did not shy away from expressing confidence in his own abilities. He argued that while Diamond Platnumz commands a larger audience and enjoys greater influence across the continent, vocal ability is a different matter.

“I believe I am a better singer than Diamond Platnumz. The difference is that he is a much bigger powerhouse in the music industry.”

Lutalo also expressed excitement over the overwhelming reception of Sija Lala, which has continued to trend across East Africa. The song has inspired numerous social media challenges and has already surpassed one million views on YouTube within weeks of its release.

The Ujue singer further noted that people should not be surprised by his Swahili delivery, as he has recorded several Swahili songs throughout his career. According to him, the success of Sija Lala has simply brought renewed attention to that side of his artistry.
With the song continuing to gain momentum, Lutalo says he is pleased to see his music crossing borders and connecting with audiences throughout the region.
